How many local levels (municipalities) does Nepal have?
Nepal has 753 local levels: 6 metropolitan cities, 11 sub-metropolitan cities, 276 municipalities and 460 rural municipalities (gaunpalika). They form the third tier of the federal structure, below the federal and provincial governments.
Each local level is divided into wards, the smallest elected unit, and holds substantial constitutional powers over local services.
