How it works

Three charges make up your renewal

Bluebook renewal in Nepal bundles a provincial tax that scales with engine size, a flat renewal fee, and a penalty that grows the longer you delay.

01

Annual vehicle tax

A provincial tax set by engine cc band. Bigger engines pay more. This tool uses verified Bagmati FY 2082/83 bands.

02

Renewal / smart-card fee

A flat fee added every renewal — Rs 300 for two-wheelers, Rs 500 for four-wheelers.

03

Late penalty

Miss the window and a penalty is added on the tax: +5% in Baisakh, +10% to mid-Ashad, +20% to end of Ashad, +32% once overdue.

Questions

Bluebook renewal, answered

How is the bluebook renewal charge in Nepal calculated?+

Your total is the annual vehicle tax (set by your province by engine cc band) plus the smart-card / bluebook renewal fee (Rs 300 for two-wheelers, Rs 500 for four-wheelers), plus a late-renewal penalty if you miss the window, plus third-party insurance. This tool adds them up using verified Bagmati Province FY 2082/83 rates.

What is the annual vehicle tax for a motorcycle in Bagmati?+

For FY 2082/83 in Bagmati Province: up to 125 cc is Rs 3,000; 126–150 cc Rs 5,000; 151–225 cc Rs 6,500; 226–400 cc Rs 11,000; 401–650 cc Rs 20,000; and above 650 cc Rs 30,000 per year. The top bands are less certain — confirm at your transport office.

What is the late-renewal penalty if I miss the deadline?+

The penalty is charged on the tax amount: +5% if paid in Baisakh; +10% from Jestha to mid-Ashad; +20% from mid-Ashad to the end of Ashad; and +32% once the next fiscal year begins (overdue). Select your renewal timing and the calculator applies the right percentage.

Do these rates apply outside Bagmati Province?+

No. Vehicle tax in Nepal is a provincial tax and each province sets its own rates in its annual economic act. Only Bagmati FY 2082/83 rates are encoded here. If you pick another province, the calculator flags this and lets you enter your province's base tax to override.

Is third-party insurance included in the total?+

Only if you enter it. Third-party insurance is mandatory to renew the bluebook but the premium varies by insurer and vehicle, so it is a separate optional input rather than a fixed number. Add your quoted premium to see the full out-of-pocket cost.

What is the smart-card / bluebook renewal fee?+

The renewal (smart-card) fee is Rs 300 for two-wheelers and Rs 500 for four-wheelers. It is added on top of the annual vehicle tax every renewal.
