How it works

How VAT is calculated in Nepal

VAT is a single 13% tax on the value of taxable goods and services. Whether you are pricing a sale or reading a bill, it is the same rate, applied two ways.

01

Adding VAT

Multiply the net (VAT-exclusive) price by 1.13. The extra 13% is the VAT you charge or pay on top.

02

Removing VAT

Divide a VAT-inclusive total by 1.13 to find the net price. The difference is the VAT already inside the figure.

03

Exempt & zero-rated

Basic foods, education and health are exempt (no VAT); exports are zero-rated at 0%. Everything else is taxed at 13%.
