LPG vs induction, answered

Is induction cheaper than LPG in Nepal?+

It depends on your usage and the current NEA tariff, there is no single universal answer. NEA's domestic tariff is a block rate, so the per-unit price you pay depends on your total monthly consumption and ampere band, and a household already using a lot of electricity may fall into a higher slab where induction cooking adds cost at a steeper rate. LPG cylinder prices also change periodically. Does this include the cost of buying an induction cooktop?+

No. This calculator compares running (fuel) cost only, the cylinder price against your kWh electricity cost. It does not include the one-time price of an induction cooktop, induction-compatible cookware, or any electrical wiring or socket upgrade your kitchen might need. Factor those in separately if you're deciding whether to switch, an induction cooktop typically pays for itself over some months of lower running cost if induction does turn out cheaper for your usage.

How much LPG does an average household use per month?+

It varies widely with household size and cooking habits, but a commonly used rough figure for a small Nepali household is about one 14.2 kg domestic cylinder every 4 to 6 weeks, so a little under one cylinder a month on average. Larger families, households that cook more elaborate meals, or those using LPG for water heating as well will go through cylinders faster. How is the induction electricity cost worked out?+

Your entered induction kWh usage per month is run through the same NEA domestic block-tariff slab logic used in our electricity bill calculator, the energy charge for your consumption slab plus that slab's fixed monthly service charge, by your chosen ampere band. This is the full estimated bill for that kWh usage at your band, not just an isolated per-unit rate, since NEA bills the whole month's consumption as one block.
