Subtracting the tare weight from a weighed reading is the same method LPG distributors use to check a cylinder's fill level.

Where do I find my cylinder's tare (empty) weight?+

Every LPG cylinder has its empty weight stamped on the metal collar or neck ring around the valve, usually marked "Tare Wt" or "T.W." in kilograms. It is set when the cylinder is manufactured and does not change, though it varies a little between cylinders, so always read it off your own cylinder rather than assuming the 15.3 kg preset.

Why weigh the cylinder instead of relying on a gauge?+

LPG is stored as a liquid, and most domestic cylinders in Nepal have no built-in level gauge or float indicator, so shaking or lifting the cylinder only gives a rough guess. Weighing on a scale and subtracting the tare weight is the accurate method, since it directly measures the mass of gas left inside rather than an indirect sign like sloshing sound or how heavy it feels.

What is a typical daily LPG usage for a household?+

It depends heavily on family size and cooking habits, but a small household cooking two to three meals a day often uses somewhere around 0.3 to 0.6 kg of LPG daily. The default of 0.4 kg/day here is only a rough midpoint, track your own refill frequency over a couple of cylinders for a more accurate personal figure.

Why is my calculated result 0% or 100% when the cylinder does not feel empty or full?+

The calculator floors the remaining gas at 0 kg and caps it at the net fill weight, since a weighing error, a wrong tare figure or a slightly overfilled refill can otherwise produce a negative or over-100% reading that is not physically possible. If your result looks off, double-check the tare weight stamped on your cylinder and re-weigh on a level, calibrated scale.

Does the net fill weight change for smaller or bigger cylinders?+
