Is today a holiday in Nepal?

Yes. Saturday is Nepal's weekly government and office holiday, the equivalent of a Western weekend day, so every Saturday is a holiday regardless of what else falls on it. Sunday is a normal working day in Nepal.

Two kinds. Fixed national days pegged to a specific Bikram Sambat calendar date, Republic Day, Constitution Day, Martyrs' Day, Prithvi Jayanti (National Unity Day) and National Democracy Day, published by the Ministry of Home Affairs, plus International Labour Day on the Gregorian 1 May. And movable lunar festivals such as Dashain, Tihar, Holi, Maha Shivaratri, Buddha Jayanti, Chhath, Teej and the Lhosars, whose Gregorian dates shift every year.

They're checked and flagged separately as Kathmandu Valley holidays, since they're extra government office holidays observed only within the valley, not nationwide. The result panel labels these distinctly from national holidays.

The Ministry of Home Affairs typically gazettes each Bikram Sambat year's holiday list only about a year ahead. Dates for the year currently in progress come straight from that gazette. Dates for the following BS year, where the gazette isn't out yet, are computed from the same fixed BS month/day using Amarnepal's own Bikram Sambat converter and are marked as pending official confirmation.

No. It covers Saturdays, the fixed national days and the major movable festivals already tracked across Amarnepal, plus the main Kathmandu Valley jatras. Some community, religious-minority or province-specific holidays (for example Christmas, Eid or Sonam Lhosar in some listings) are not all included. For anything time-critical, confirm with your employer or the official gazette.

Banks, schools and individual offices sometimes take additional local or discretionary holidays beyond the gazetted government list, and some communities observe extra festival days not covered here. Treat this as a check against the national gazetted calendar, not a guarantee for every institution.
