Why lakh and crore exist: grouping digits differently
English groups large numbers in threes: 1,000 (thousand), 1,000,000 (million), 1,000,000,000 (billion), a comma every three digits. South Asia, including Nepal, groups them differently: the first group from the right is three digits, and after that every group is two digits.
