What is Preeti to Unicode conversion?+
Preeti is a legacy Nepali font where each key types a Roman character that only looks like Devanagari when the Preeti font is applied. Unicode is the modern standard where the characters are actual Devanagari that works everywhere. Converting turns old Preeti text into real Unicode you can search, copy and use on any device.
Why do I need Unicode instead of Preeti?+
Preeti text only displays correctly if the reader has the Preeti font installed, and it can't be searched or read by screen readers, websites, databases or AI. Unicode Devanagari displays the same everywhere — on the web, in Microsoft Word, email, social media and mobile — and is searchable.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?+
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript; your text never leaves your device, so it is safe for private or official documents.
Does it convert Unicode back to Preeti?+
No. This tool converts Preeti → Unicode only. There is no reliable one-to-one reverse mapping from Unicode back to Preeti, so a Unicode → Preeti converter would produce unpredictable results.
It didn't convert everything correctly — why?+
The converter maps the standard Preeti/PCS keyboard layout. Text created in a different legacy font (such as Kantipur, Himali or a customised layout) or containing unusual glyph combinations may need a small manual fix. Always proofread important documents after converting.
