How it works

A digit-only swap, nothing else touched

The converter walks through your text one character at a time. Digits are swapped for their counterpart in the other script; every other character passes through unchanged.

01

Detect direction

If the text contains any Devanagari digit (०-९), the target is English. Otherwise the target is Devanagari.

02

Swap digit characters

Each digit 0-9 (or ०-९) is looked up in a fixed pair and swapped for its counterpart. All ten map one-to-one.

03

Leave everything else

Letters, spaces, commas, decimal points and date separators are never touched, only the digit glyphs change.

Questions

Nepali numerals, answered

What exactly gets converted?+

Only the ten digit characters: English 0-9 and their Devanagari counterparts ०-९ (Unicode block U+0966–U+096F). Everything else in your text, letters, spaces, punctuation, decimal points, slashes and hyphens in a date, stays exactly as you typed it.

Which direction does it convert?+

The tool auto-detects direction from what you paste. If your text contains any Devanagari digit (०-९), it converts those to English 0-9. Otherwise it converts any English digits it finds to Devanagari ०-९. You do not need to pick a direction manually.

When would I need this?+

Common uses include writing a Bikram Sambat year or date on a government form in Devanagari (2082 → २०८२), converting an invoice or bill number for a Nepali-language document, or reading a scanned form's Devanagari figures back into ordinary digits for a spreadsheet.

Is this the same as converting numbers to words?+

No. This tool only swaps digit glyphs, 25 stays as two digit characters (२५), it does not spell anything out. If you want a rupee amount written out as Devanagari words ("पच्चीस" for twenty-five, for a cheque or akshyarupi line), use the Nepali Rupees in Words converter instead.

Does it handle decimals and thousands separators?+

Yes. A decimal point, comma or any other punctuation around the digits is left untouched, only the digit characters themselves are swapped, so "1,234.56" becomes "१,२३४.५६" and converts back cleanly.

Does this run on a server?+

No. The digit swap runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded or stored.

Sources & data note

A pure digit-for-digit substitution using the Unicode Devanagari digit block (U+0966–U+096F). This does not spell numbers out as words, and does not validate or format the surrounding text, always proofread a converted government form or official document before submitting it.
