When did Nepal become a republic?
Nepal became a federal democratic republic on 28 May 2008, when the first Constituent Assembly abolished the 240-year-old monarchy. The current Constitution of Nepal was promulgated on 20 September 2015, establishing the federal structure.
The change followed the decade-long Maoist conflict (1996–2006) and the People's Movement of 2006.
