Budhi Gandaki Hydroelectric Projectबूढीगण्डकी जलविद्युत आयोजना
Nepal's largest planned domestic reservoir project, a 263 m dam on the Budhi Gandaki River straddling Gorkha and Dhading, creating a ~50 km² reservoir. Developed by the state-owned Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Company (GoN 80% / NEA 20%) and funded largely through a dedicated petroleum infrastructure tax. A 2017 EPC contract with Power China was scrapped; the government approved a domestic financing modality in 2025–26, but construction has not begun and resettlement of ~45,000 people is a major challenge.
