What is the largest caste/ethnic group in Nepal?
Chhetri is the largest caste/ethnic group in Nepal at 16.45% of the population (Census 2021), followed by Hill Brahman (11.29%), Magar (6.90%), Tharu (6.20%) and Tamang (5.62%). Nepal recognises 142 caste and ethnic groups in total.
The groups span Khas Arya, hill and Terai Janajati, Madhesi, Dalit and Muslim communities.
