The per-tola rate is set daily by FENEGOSIDA and varies between jewellers and cities; always enter the live rate before buying or selling. Conversions use 1 tola = 11.6638 g and 1 tola = 16 aana. Computed in your browser — an estimate, not a quotation.
From the daily rate to the grand total
Gold value is the per-tola rate times your weight in tola, adjusted for purity. Making charge and VAT are then layered on top.
Convert & purify
Your weight is converted to tola (1 tola = 11.6638 g = 16 aana), then multiplied by the purity factor — 1.00 for 24K, 22/24 = 0.91667 for 22K.
Gold value
Gold value = daily rate (Rs per tola) × weight in tola × purity factor. This is the headline number.
Charges & tax
An optional making (jyala) charge is added as a percent of gold value, then 13% VAT is applied if you toggle it on.
Gold value, answered
How many grams are in one tola of gold?+
One tola equals 11.6638 grams. So to convert a gram price to a tola price, multiply the per-gram rate by 11.6638; to go the other way, divide the per-tola rate by 11.6638. One tola is also divided into 16 aana.
What is the difference between 24K and 22K gold?+
24-karat (24K) gold is fine, 100% pure gold. 22-karat (22K) hallmark jewellery is 22/24 = 91.667% pure, with the remaining ~8.3% made up of other metals for durability. This calculator multiplies the gold value by 0.91667 when you select 22K.
Where does the daily gold rate come from?+
In Nepal the daily gold and silver rate is published by FENEGOSIDA — the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association — at fenegosida.org. Because the price changes every day, this tool never hardcodes it: you enter the current per-tola rate yourself.
How is the making (jyala) charge calculated?+
The making or jyala charge is the goldsmith's labour for crafting an ornament. It is commonly quoted as a percentage of the gold value. Enter that percentage and the calculator adds it on top of the gold value before VAT.
Does VAT apply to gold in Nepal?+
Nepal levies 13% value-added tax (VAT) under the VAT Act, administered by the Inland Revenue Department. Use the VAT toggle to add 13% on the gold value plus making charge. Whether VAT is charged on a given purchase depends on the seller and transaction, so confirm with your jeweller.
Can I value gold by aana?+
Yes. One tola is split into 16 aana, so select the aana unit and the calculator converts your weight to tola (aana ÷ 16) before applying the rate and purity factor.
Sources & data note
Conversions are fixed: 1 tola = 11.6638 grams and 1 tola = 16 aana; the 22K purity factor is 22/24 = 0.91667; Nepal VAT is 13% under the VAT Act. The daily per-tola gold rate is volatile and is set by FENEGOSIDA — you enter the live figure yourself, so always check fenegosida.org before buying or selling. This is an estimate, not a quotation.
