How to Check TU and University Exam Results Online in Nepal (Symbol Number, SMS, Re-totaling)

University results in Nepal are published by each university's Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE), an office entirely separate from the National Examinations Board (NEB) that grades school-level SEE and Class 11/12 exams. Before results go live, keep your identifying details ready. For Tribhuvan University you normally need your examination symbol number (printed on your admit card and registration card) and your date of birth; some programmes and the newer portal also ask for your TU registration number (the long number in the format that begins with your campus and year code). Knowing your faculty or programme code (for example BBS, BA, BSc, BEd, BCA, BBA, MBS, MA) and your exact year or semester helps you land on the right result page quickly.

As with any Nepali result day, the official servers slow down in the first hour or two because tens of thousands of students check at once. That congestion is normal and does not mean your result is missing. Have a second channel ready (a reputable mirror portal or the SMS service), confirm the publication date from an official OCE notice rather than rumours, and ignore any 'leaked' or 'guaranteed' results circulating on social media before the official time.

The primary official route for Tribhuvan University is the Office of the Controller of Examinations website, tuexam.edu.np, with the live result service usually hosted at result.tuexam.edu.np (an older address, result.tu.edu.np, has also been used). Because TU has migrated its result systems more than once, always verify the current official portal from a TU or OCE notice before entering your details, and treat only tu.edu.np and tuexam.edu.np sub-domains as official.

The general steps are the same across programmes. Open the portal, find the Result section, select your programme or faculty (for example BBS, BSc, BEd, MBS) and the correct year or semester and exam year, then enter your symbol number together with your date of birth or registration number as the form requires. Submit, and your marksheet appears on screen showing subject-wise marks or grades and your overall result, division or GPA. Use the print or download button to save a soft copy for immediate use.

The online copy is for quick reference only. TU rules require you to collect the official signed and stamped marksheet or transcript from your college or the OCE when it is distributed, and admissions offices, employers and scholarship boards will ask for that stamped original rather than a screenshot. Never enter more than your symbol number, date of birth and registration number on any 'result' site, and never pay to simply view a result.

When the official portal is overloaded, established education portals mirror TU results as soon as they are published and are often faster to load. The most widely used is Edusanjal (tu.edusanjal.com), which lets you view BBS, BEd, BA, BSc and other bachelor-level results; other long-running Nepali result sites publish the same figures. These are convenient for a quick look, but the authoritative record is always the OCE portal and, ultimately, your stamped marksheet, so use mirrors for speed and confirm anything unexpected against the official source.

Tribhuvan University also offers a Nepal Telecom SMS service in most result cycles, which needs no internet. The exact short-code and message format have changed between cycles and faculties: formats reported in recent years include sending your faculty code and symbol number to 33624, or sending 'Year Faculty Symbol' (for example 2BBA 204097) to 34949, with an IVR/voice option on 1602. Because these numbers vary, check the current SMS number and format from the OCE's own result notice before sending; standard SMS charges apply and the service works most reliably on a Nepal Telecom SIM.

Whichever channel you use, the grade or marks shown will be the same because every route reads from the OCE's database. SMS and IVR return a short text summary rather than a formatted marksheet, so you may still want to open the portal later to download a printable copy for your files.

How your result is presented depends on whether your programme runs on the annual (yearly) system or the semester system. Annual-system programmes (still common in many traditional TU Bachelor faculties) typically report raw marks per subject, a total, and a division: Distinction for 80 percent and above, First Division for 60 to 79 percent, Second Division for 45 to 59 percent, and Pass/Third Division below that, with the pass line traditionally at around 35 percent per subject. You must usually pass each paper to be declared passed for the year.

Semester-system programmes (such as BSc CSIT, BIT, BCA, BBA, and most Master's degrees) report letter grades on a 4.0 grade-point scale, a Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) for each semester, and a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) across all completed semesters. Each subject shows a grade and grade point; the SGPA and CGPA are grade points earned divided by credit hours. The final grade blends internal (in-semester) assessment with the end-semester board examination, and the minimum grade to pass a course and the CGPA needed to graduate (commonly around 2.0 at Bachelor level) are set by each programme's regulation.

If you believe a mark is wrong, Tribhuvan University offers a formal review through the Office of the Controller of Examinations. The common first step is re-totaling (thaili phukaune / grade re-totaling), which verifies that the marks on your answer sheet were added up correctly and that no question or page was missed during totalling. Re-totaling does not re-assess the quality of your answers. Re-checking, where offered, is a deeper review that confirms marks were awarded correctly, and it carries its own fee and deadline.

You apply by submitting the re-totaling application form with the fee, generally at the OCE (Balkhu) or through the channel named in the result notice, within a fixed window after the result is published. Reported figures in recent cycles are roughly NPR 200 per subject for the annual system with about 35 days to apply, and roughly NPR 500 per subject for the semester system with about 14 days to apply. These fees and deadlines change from year to year and differ by faculty, so confirm the exact amount, method and cutoff from the current OCE re-totaling notice before you pay.

Re-totaling can raise, lower or leave your marks unchanged, and fees are normally non-refundable. If a change is found, TU publishes an updated result and issues a corrected marksheet. Miss the application window and you cannot apply for that cycle, so note the deadline the moment your result is out.

There is no single nationwide result day for universities the way there is for SEE or the NEB Class 12 exam. Each Office of the Controller of Examinations publishes results programme by programme, so a BBS third-year result, a BSc CSIT semester result and an MBS result can appear weeks or months apart. As a rough guide, TU aims to publish many results within a few months of the last examination, but the interval varies widely by faculty and year and has historically been criticised for delays.

The reliable way to know the date is to follow the official OCE notices and the university's social channels, which announce each result shortly before or on the day it is released. Reputable portals such as Edusanjal also aggregate 'result published' notices across programmes, which is useful when you are waiting on one specific exam.

Every Nepali university runs its own Office of the Controller of Examinations and its own portal, so the login details differ slightly by institution. Kathmandu University (KU) publishes results through its examinations office (exam.ku.edu.np, linked from ku.edu.np), where students can view and download marksheets for programmes such as engineering, MBBS/BDS, management and science; KU is fully semester-based and reports on a finer letter-grade scale.

Pokhara University (PU) uses an online examination portal (exam.pu.edu.np, linked from pu.edu.np) where you enter your student ID or registration number to see subject-wise marks, grades and status for Bachelor's, Master's, MPhil and PhD programmes. Do not confuse Pokhara University (abbreviated PU) with Purbanchal University (often written PoU), whose results are published online through its own OCE portal (commonly puexam.edu.np) using your login or registration details, with no offline result declaration.

The two newer provincial universities work the same way. Mid-West University (MU) publishes results through its Examinations Management Office (muexam.edu.np), where you enter your symbol number and date of birth. Far-Western University (FWU) uses its OCE portal (fwuexam.edu.np, with the result search at exam.fwu.edu.np/Result), again by symbol number and date of birth. In every case, verify the current official portal from the university's own site, keep your symbol/registration number and date of birth ready, and collect the stamped marksheet from your campus for official use.
