Route overview

Gokyo Lakes Trek

The Gokyo Lakes Trek visits a series of six sacred Himalayan lakes in a glacial valley parallel to the Everest route, offering views of four 8,000-m peaks from Gokyo Ri (5,357 m) and a closer look at the massive Ngozumpa Glacier. The western valley approach is less crowded than the main Everest Base Camp trail and allows combination as a 'three passes' circuit.

The six Gokyo lakes (Longponga, Taboche, Dudh Pokhari, Thonak, Ngozumpa and Gyazumpa) are sacred to the Sherpa Buddhist tradition and are Ramsar-listed wetlands since 2007.

The Cho La Pass (5,420 m) connects the Gokyo valley to the Everest Base Camp trail, allowing a popular 18–20 day 'three passes' circuit (Renjo La + Cho La + Kongma La).
