TU CGPA calculator
Work out your SGPA for a single semester or your overall CGPA across a whole programme on Tribhuvan University’s 4.0 grade-point scale — just add your courses with their credit hours and letter grades.
Uses the standard credit-weighted average that TU applies, with grade points from A = 4.0 down to F = 0. Everything is computed in your browser; nothing is stored.

SGPA = Σ(credit hours × grade point) ÷ Σ(credit hours); CGPA applies the same weighted average across every semester. Grade points follow Tribhuvan University’s 4.0 letter-grade scale (A = 4.0 down to F = 0). Faculties and programmes can differ — always confirm the grade points and credit weights printed on your own mark sheet.
From letter grades to a CGPA
Each course's letter grade becomes a grade point, weighted by its credit hours; the weighted average over a semester is your SGPA, and over the whole programme it is your CGPA.
Grade points
Convert each letter grade to a point on the TU 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, down to D = 1.0 and F = 0.
Weight by credits
Multiply each grade point by the course's credit hours, so heavier courses count more toward your average.
SGPA & CGPA
SGPA = Σ(credit × point) ÷ Σ(credit) for one semester; CGPA applies the same weighted average across all semesters.
TU CGPA, answered
How is SGPA calculated at Tribhuvan University?+
SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is the credit-weighted average of your grade points for one semester: SGPA = Σ(credit hours × grade point) ÷ Σ(credit hours). Each course's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours, the products are summed, and the total is divided by the total credit hours taken that semester.
How do I convert SGPA to CGPA?+
CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) is the same weighted average extended across every semester. Add up Σ(credit × grade point) for all courses in all semesters and divide by the total credit hours of the whole programme. It is not simply the average of your SGPAs unless every semester carries equal credits.
What is the TU 4.0 grade-point scale?+
On Tribhuvan University's 4.0 scale the letter grades map to grade points as: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D+ = 1.3, D = 1.0 and F = 0. This calculator uses exactly these values.
Does the TU grading scale differ between faculties?+
The 4.0 letter-grade framework is common across TU's semester-system programmes, but pass marks, the lowest passing grade and how non-graded or audit courses are treated can vary by faculty and programme. Always check the grading rules and credit weights on your own mark sheet or programme handbook.
How many credit hours should I enter for each course?+
Use the credit hours printed in your course curriculum or mark sheet — most theory courses are 3 credits and many lab or project courses are 1–2 credits. The credit hours act as the weight for each grade, so entering them accurately is essential for a correct SGPA and CGPA.
Is this CGPA calculator official?+
No. This is an independent study tool that applies the standard TU weighted-average formula and the published 4.0 grade points. It is indicative only; your official result is the one issued by Tribhuvan University on your transcript or mark sheet.
Sources & data note
Based on Tribhuvan University's semester-system 4.0 letter-grade scale (A = 4.0 to F = 0) and the standard credit-weighted average: SGPA/CGPA = Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ(credit). Grade points and pass rules can vary by faculty and programme, so values here are indicative — confirm the current grading rules and your figures against your official TU mark sheet.
